Frequently asked
How does a lock work?
You pick your socials once. After that they lock during your moments, or right away when you hold the red dot for one second. Open a locked app and you see the lock screen with Never mind.
iPhone: the lock runs through Apple's Screen Time. iOS keeps the lock itself, also when the app is closed or your phone restarts.
Android: the app sees through Usage access which app opens and draws the lock over it. The lock appears within a second. A notification shows while something is locked.
What's the difference between Gentle and Strict?
Gentle (default): the lock offers Open for 5 min. You breathe for 10 seconds first, and each breather after that, that day, takes twice as long, up to 80 seconds. Then you get 5 minutes and the lock closes by itself.
Strict: no breather. You can only stop early with your key. Without a key the lock runs to its end.
How do I set up The Key?
Go to Settings > Key in the app and scan the same barcode or QR code twice, ideally in another room. Any book, box or package with a barcode works. No barcode at hand? Print our key card.
You can set up or change the key only while nothing strict is running.
How do I stop a strict lock without the key on iPhone?
Not in the app, that's the deal. Through your iPhone you always can:
- Go to Settings > Screen Time > Apps with Screen Time access and switch SocialManagement off. All locks lift at once. Your moments are kept; allow access again in the app later.
- Or delete the app. Your moments and key go with it.
How do I stop a strict lock without the key on Android?
Not in the app. Through your phone you always can:
- Go to Settings > Apps > SocialMgmt and tap Force stop. The lock stops until you open the app again.
- Or take back Usage access or Display over other apps there. The app tells you the lock is off and how to fix it.
- Or delete the app.
Menu names differ a little between phone brands.
I lost my key.
Was it our key card? Print the PDF again: card 2 is always card 2, so your old key works again right away.
Was it another barcode? Then wait for the lock to end by itself and set up a new key. If it really can't wait, use the steps above for your phone.
On Android the lock sometimes doesn't work.
Some phones stop apps to save battery. The app shows when that happens and explains what to do. By brand:
- Samsung: Settings > Apps > SocialMgmt > Battery > Unrestricted.
- Xiaomi: turn on Autostart and choose No restrictions under Battery saver.
- Huawei and Honor: Battery > App launch > SocialMgmt > Manage manually, all on.
- OnePlus, Oppo and Realme: Battery > SocialMgmt > Allow background activity.
- Vivo: Battery > High background power use > SocialMgmt on.
On iPhone the app asks me to pick my socials again.
After an iOS update or restoring a backup your choice can expire. Tap the card and pick your socials again. Your moments stay as they were.
I tap Open for 5 min and nothing happens.
On iPhone with iOS 26.5 or later the button opens your breather right away. On earlier versions your breather arrives as a notification: Tap for your breather. Tap that notification.
No notification? Then notifications for SocialManagement are off. Turn them on in Settings > Notifications > SocialManagement. While they are off, you find the breather on the app's home screen.
I don't get a heads-up.
The heads-up five minutes before a moment is a notification. With notifications off, it won't come. Turn them on in Settings > Notifications > SocialManagement on iPhone or Settings > Apps > SocialMgmt > Notifications on Android. Then check in the app under Settings that the heads-up is on.
Apple says Screen Time didn't work.
Screen Time only works when your iPhone has a passcode. Turn one on in Settings > Face ID & Passcode and try again.
It also only works on your own Apple Account, not on a child account in Family Sharing. That's on purpose: SocialManagement is not parental control.
Does it work with Family Sharing?
Yes. On iPhone, Family Sharing shares the app with your family automatically. On Android it works through Google Play Family Library. Everyone locks their own socials on their own phone.
SocialManagement is not parental control: you can't use it to lock what someone else does on their phone. On iPhone the app doesn't work on a child account.
Does it work on more than one phone?
Yes, with the same purchase on all your iPhones with the same Apple Account, or all your Android phones with the same Google account. There's no sync: every phone has its own moments and key. An App Store purchase doesn't carry over to Google Play, or the other way round.
How do I get a refund?
You bought the app in the store, so refunds go through the store too.
- App Store: go to reportaproblem.apple.com, sign in and choose the purchase. Apple decides on refunds; we can't refund an App Store purchase ourselves.
- Google Play: within 48 hours of buying, request it from your order history on play.google.com. Later than that, email us.
Which phones are supported?
iPhone with iOS 16.4 or later, and Android phones with Android 10 or later. The Control Center control and the Action button work from iOS 18. There's no version for iPad, Mac or the browser.
